University of Idaho Foundation Reports 20.4 Percent Rate of Return in 2011

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Foundation Inc., reports that it achieved a 20.4 percent total rate of return in fiscal year 2011, which ended June 30. The three-year return performance places it in the top 5 percent nationally for institutionally related foundations.

“Overall, the foundation’s assets total $243 million,” said Jeffry Stoddard, foundation chairman. “Included in that total is $191 million, which is managed in our pooled Consolidated Investment Trust. We are very pleased that the expert management of donor-contributed funds by the foundation’s investment committee led to an outstanding rate of return of 20.4 percent.”

Over the past fiscal year, the foundation distributed $17.7 million, from generous donors who made outright gifts and from donor-endowed funds, to support scholarships, faculty and programs at the University of Idaho.

“Our foundation continues to provide leadership in its stewardship of donor-contributed funds,” said former University of Idaho President M. Duane Nellis. “We can’t emphasize enough the importance of private giving to higher education; it enhances and deepens our students’ transformational learning.

Since 1959, the foundation has distributed more than $120 million in endowment earnings to the University. Endowments are established by privately contributed funds that are invested and managed in perpetuity; endowment earnings are distributed to the University of Idaho annually for the uses established by the donors.

During its recent annual meeting at the University of Idaho’s Moscow campus, the foundation board of directors elected officers, announced new members, thanked retiring directors, and recognized those directors who are continuing their terms of service.
